Character —
Character Name: Tim Drake
Character Canon: Young Justice
Character Age: 14
Canon Point: post-“True Colors”
Link to History: https://youngjustice.fandom.com/wiki/Robin
Because Greg Weisman was uninterested in giving Tim an actual backstory, the backstory I’m rolling with is heavily based on pre-New 52 comic canon’s (https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Timothy_Drake_(Prime_Earth) ) but modified to fit better with YJ canon. The main points are Tim’s trip to the circus that resulted in seeing Dick’s parents die and Batman swoop in to take Dick away; the characters of Jack and Janet Drake, who are as rich and as neglectful as they are in comics canon though they have yet to have any experiences with the Obeah Man; the realizing Dick Grayson is Robin because of Robin doing a flip only a few living people were known to be able to do; and sneaking around Gotham taking pictures of Batman and Robin. Because Young Justice is actually much better about giving its heroes a support network and an actual counselor, and the young heroes work closely under the Justice League, it’s hard to imagine Batman going as off the rails in the YJ universe as he does in the comics universe after Jason Todd’s death or Tim needing to go to Dick to try to convince him to become Robin again. So instead, I like to imagine the last two issues of “A Lonely Place of Dying” happen without him introducing himself in advance, with Tim showing up unexpectedly on the Batfam’s radar by punching Two-Face to prevent him from blowing up Batman and Nightwing.
Inventory:
• High-tech Robin suit that includes fun high-tech goodies including holographic computer, stealth mode, and utility belt with some birdarangs, smoke pellets, rebreather, etc.
• Bo staff that carries an electric charge
Powers —

Skills:
• Annoyingly good detective: as in comics canon, Tim figured out the Bats’ identities by paying attention to Robin’s flips, seeing one that he recognized, confirming that only a few people were known to be able to pull off that flip and one of them was Dick Grayson, and extrapolating from there to figure out Batman’s identity. He’s only gotten better and more perceptive under the tutelage of Batman and Nightwing.
• Photography: Tim had been sneaking around Gotham for a while, taking pictures of Gotham’s dynamic duo without their knowledge. As a result, he got pretty darn good at both stealth and photography, though of the two, photography is the hobby he pursues for artistic merit.
• Combat: Tim’s preferred weapon is the bo staff mentioned above, but he’s been well-trained in multiple forms of usually hand-to-hand and close quarters combat.
• Escapology: I don’t remember if we actually see this in YJ but it’s a pretty standard Bat-skill.
• Hacking: he does this too. I heard he’s pretty good at it!!

Superpowers:
• ENHANCED HEALING & DURABILITY: Durability meaning it’s harder to hurt him, and enhanced healing mostly being a sped-up version of normal human healing. So not so great that he could do things that the human body wouldn’t normally heal, like regrowing a body part. But it would take, for example, more force to break his arm, and his arm would heal faster afterwards.
• PERCEPTION FILTERING: Tim’s power will effectively have the ability to tell people’s brains not to notice him. It’s like having sneak set to 150. It’s an active power, so he has to either be intentionally using it to have it activated (or have it subconsciously trigger due to psychological distress – there’s opportunity for juicy drama while he’s working on controlling it), but basically it won’t work if he’s asleep etc. I’ll likely be putting up a permissions post for this so people can work out how this would work on this character/if anything odd would happen with this power.
Limitations:
Tim’s perception ability would work – for now, anyway – on sentient life, not electronics. Electronics will still be capable of recording his presence; however, his ability can affect the people who are supposed to monitor the electronics. But his ability will also still be proximity-based, and while I’m going to give him the option to expand the area it works in over time, it’s not infinite. Also, he’d have a much more difficult time affecting someone who knows he’s supposed to be there. For example, if he was talking to someone, he’d want to wait until they’ve stopped talking, or he’s out of their sight for a moment, or something else has their attention briefly because his power is based on taking advantage of gaps in people’s attention rather than changing someone’s mind directly.
Personality —
Please EITHER (1) Summarize your character's personality — including motivations, behaviors, and psychology — in 300-600 words OR (2) Respond to the questions below.
  • What were your character's most formative experiences?:
Once upon a time, Timmy Drake went to the circus, where he met a boy named Dick Grayson, who hugged him and dedicated the night’s performance to him. And then Dick’s parents fell to their deaths and Batman swooped in to take him away. Thus began a concerning number of nightmares and an obsession with Batman that was given more than enough room to bloom by his parents’ habitual neglect in the form of general disinterest in him as a person and repeatedly leaving him to his own devices while they go on globetrotting archeologist adventures.

The biggest moment of his life is when he becomes Robin, but of course Greg Weisman put that in a timeskip between s1 and s2. As mentioned above, I like to imagine he finally becomes involved after years of watching because Batman and Nightwing are trapped in a building that Two-Face is about to finish blowing up and no one else is there to help but Tim. It’s an enormous step forward of bravery and conviction that Batman and Nightwing need help, and Tim might not have set out to become Robin when he started this obsession with them but they need someone and he’ll be that person since no one else can.

I’m going to roll the time Dick put him in charge of Gamma Squad (the C-Team) and the time Dick put him in charge of Alpha Squad (the A-Team) into the same formative experience because they’re both about feeling trusted by his older brother to be smart and be responsible for others and developing his ability to lead other supers and improvise on the fly. While leading Gamma Squad, his easy mission turns into finding a whole building of alien invaders and successfully rescuing hostages while getting his team out safely, and we see him learning to trust his own judgement about what is acceptable risk when other lives are on the line. As Alpha Squad leader, he succeeds in his mission while working around a wild card in the form of Roy Harper, who compromises the mission by blowing shit up. Despite this, Tim decides to cover for Roy to Nightwing, seemingly making the decision to take responsibility for the actions of a teammate under his command and/or give Roy – who is recovering from trauma – some more space to heal before putting him in Nightwing’s crosshairs. It may not be the best idea given Roy’s trauma gets them captured later, but it is compassionate and shows Tim thinking about how to handle his teammates without relying on his older brother to corral them.

  • What values, morals, and/or philosophies does your character live by, and how are those beliefs demonstrated? What happens when they have to compromise what they believe in?
As a member of the Batfamily, Tim believes in helping people in trouble without seriously compromising his morals (the big one being the no kill rule). He believes that the innocent should live without fear from violence, and he believes that he’s one of the people who can help realize that vision (or at least bring the world a little closer to it) by being Robin. He also believes that his worth is based in the actions he takes and the amount of usefulness he can provide, because his parents are garbage people who’ve hardly ever shown him love just for being himself and he has a working relationship with his adoptive family that he’s not aware would survive no longer being Robin. Also he believes in Harvey Dent Batman, and Batman’s mission to better not just Gotham but any place he finds himself.

  • What is your character afraid of? How does avoiding or preventing these fears influence their actions and decisions?
Tim is primarily afraid of failure. He’s afraid of failing as Robin, of not being as good as Bruce and Dick and Alfred believe he can be. He’s afraid that some day, he’s either going to screw up badly enough that they’ll just take the mantle away from him, or they’ll just decide he’s not good enough. He’s afraid of getting someone hurt, either a civilian or one of his new family or the Team. He’s afraid that ultimately, he’s not worth that much after all. And he does his best to prevent these fears from being realized by working as hard as he can to not screw up, to not make Batman and Nightwing think he’s a failure, to push himself as hard as he needs to to prove his worth and keep the place he’s found for himself.

  • What goals does your character have right now? What do they want, and how do they go about getting it?
As a personal goal, Tim wants to prove himself as Robin. As much as he idolizes and respects Jason Todd – and if you had him set brutal honesty to on, he suspects at least some of the affection he receives from Bruce and Dick is projected onto him from Jason – he’d like to not be in Jason’s shadow forever. He wants to be trusted on his own merits, and he is making strides towards that since he absolutely crushed being in charge of Gamma Squad and Dick upgraded him to Alpha Squad. Professionally, he’s currently part of the Team’s ongoing fight to prove that the Reach is up to no good, in addition to his usual job of being Batman’s extremely excellent sidekick. Neither of which he can continue to do here, but don’t worry, Tim, they’ll be waiting for you at home, and there’s plenty to do here.
